If it's U.K. Snickers V Milky Way then it's Snickers for me.

A U.S. Musketeer is a U.K. Milky Way but a U.S. Milky Way is a U.K. Mars Bar. A Snickers is still a Snickers.

The Limited Edition Dark Chocolate Mars Bar is a taste sensation.

Because, unless I'm making smores out of them, I only like the Hershey's bars with almonds. It's a shame. An almond Hershey's bar would definitely replace Reece's if Reece's don't count as a "chocolate bar".

Snickers almond. You get the nice texture contrast of having something crunchy in with the chocolate, caramel, and nougat, but with a tastier, better nut. Almonds FTW!

Or.... Baby Ruth, if you're feeling like a Snickers but don't want caramel. ^_^

I believe a dark chocolate Mars Bar is called a Milky Way dark chocolate bar.

But ye', in most of the world what the U.S. call a Milky Way bar is called a Mars Bar (first made in Slough, U.K.) and a Musketeer is called a Milky Way here in the U.K. and the most part of the rest of the world. It gets convoluted further because until relatively recently a Snickers bar was called a Marathon in the U.K. and Starburst was called Opal Fruits.

Crisps or rather U.S. potato chips are branded Lays the world over but here in the U.K. they are called Walkers.

Milky Way, but I really prefer Mars, basically the same just a little sweeter.

Kinja'd!!!1

Mars bars are slightly reformulated for a bit sweeter taste. Plus, milk chocolate is always going to have a different taste depending on where its made based on things like climate and what the cows are fed, etc. At least that's what one of Mars family members said when a coworker asked her what the difference between the two really was.

The real reason for the two different names is because the UK charged a lower fee for registering a trademark if it was a family name as opposed to a "created" brand, so they were able to register Mars cheaper than Milky Way when they started up their British operation in the '30s.

The U.S. Milky Way is the U.K. Mars bar. Where are you at? There should or at least could be a British, English or Scottish store near by but other than some slight differences in U.S. and U.K. chocolate it's pretty much the same thing.

From Wiki

"In 1932, Forrest Mars , son of American candy maker Frank C. Mars , rented a factory in Slough and with a staff of twelve people, began manufacturing a chocolate bar consisting of nougat and caramel covered in milk chocolate , modelled after his father's Milky Way bar, which was already popular in the US. Today the basic recipe is unaltered but the size of the bar and the proportions of the main components have changed over the years. With minor variations, this version is sold worldwide, except for the US, and is packaged in a black wrapper with red lettering."

Ye', the U.S. uses different levels of sugars and different types of fats and is generally made to withstand the U.S. climate.

I sent a couple of kilos of Cadbury's chocolates to a lass I know in St. Louis. I think it's fair to say she's not as keen on U.S. chocolate nor is my friend in Seattle who has found a place that sells British chocolates and biscuits on San Juan Island recently.

The Mars bar was relaunched in the US a few years ago, but is pretty low key here - no marketing support, not much distribution. They don't even do a new wrapper, just stick a printed sticker on the outside to comply with US labeling requirements. Its more common in New England and places closer to the Canadian border, eg upstate New York.

The Mars bar is quite a common staple over here with most generations and they keep on top of marketing with sports events and advertising in general. The latest has to be Mars drinks.

I've never seen the drink anywhere here, not even in Mars offices. Bet its delicious though. Considering the Milky Way bar was originally designed to replicate the taste of a malted milk beverage, I guess that brings it full circle.

The only products the Mars Drinks division sells here are the Flavia coffee makers, basically a Keurig competitor.

Kinja'd!!! Svend > ranwhenparked
11/13/2014 at 23:10

Kinja'd!!!0

There are a few different versions of it. One with fresh milk and one with long life milk and one that I haven't seen for a few weeks, an energy drink version. It doesn't, as you'd expect, taste much like a Mars bar but does taste quite nice. There are other types of Mars drinks like Milky Way drinks, Mars, Snickers and Milky Way spreads on the likes of Nutella and a Snickers peanut butter spread.

Kinja'd!!! ranwhenparked > Svend
11/13/2014 at 23:14

Kinja'd!!!0

The spreads at least will probably come here eventually, Hershey recently launched a spread line of their own and it seems to be performing well, so there has to be some sort of response.

Kinja'd!!! Svend > ranwhenparked
11/13/2014 at 23:24

Kinja'd!!!0

I understand the need to keep things fresh and relevant but it's going a bit far now with cross manufacturing of a chocolate bar into drinks, desserts, spreads, ice cream bars, ice cream, sponge cake bars, etc...

Kinja'd!!! ranwhenparked > Svend
11/13/2014 at 23:32

Kinja'd!!!0

Customers are extremely fickle, you have to keep dangling new things in front of them to keep them coming back. In many cases, the brand extensions are just to attract attention and grow sales of the original core products and may or may not stay around for the long term.

Kinja'd!!! Svend > ranwhenparked
11/13/2014 at 23:40

Kinja'd!!!0

True. Maybe it's just me being an old git. Things like this wind me up. I work in a store that does 650 different kinds, types, flavours, etc... of yoghurt and then we get a customer you wants a product that has been discontinued because no one was buying them but has remembered we stocked it and all of a sudden they want it.

Kinja'd!!! ranwhenparked > Svend
11/13/2014 at 23:53

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, that is annoying. And what's the deal with the Greek yoghurt takeover, its like overnight the entire dairy case suddenly became nothing but Greek style? Can't even buy any other kind now.

Kinja'd!!! Svend > ranwhenparked
11/14/2014 at 00:01

Kinja'd!!!0

Greek? Is it Greek from Greece or 'Greek style'? I'd be okay if it was just Greek. We have Greek, Polish, German, French, British, no fat, low fat, reduced fat, full fat, low sugar, no sugar, thick, probiotic, prebiotic, healthy choice, low cost, desserts, layered yoghurts, fruit corner yoghurts, etc... We even do a rum and raisin, champagne, after dinner mint and raspberry parfait yoghurt. Lets stop the madness now.
